I wrote a post for The Student Affairs Feature back in April/May 2014. The title is “Engaging Students: Blurring the Lines between Academic and Student Affairs.” It’s about going beyond our boundaries of our position descriptions and creating an actual holistic environment for our students. When student affairs professionals ask about academics, and academic affairs ask about service-learning and leadership opportunities, we create a world with blurred edges to demonstrate our versatility to our students. This article throws in a few lessons that I have learned about jumping around functional areas in higher education and abstract thoughts about students’ perceptions of our roles as higher education professionals.
My overall goal for this article was to get us all reassessing our interactions with students in order to incorporate them into our everyday practice.
Read here for the article. Enjoy, and let me know what you think!
